The Kirst Family has been in the tobacco business since 1889, when Frank Kirst began manufacturing and distributing cigars on the east side of Buffalo, New York. His son Edwin, founder of E. P. Kirst & Sons, Inc. began working with his dad in 1905, and remained active in the business until 1976.

Starting in 1936, four of Edwin's sons became members of the organization. Three have since retired and the business has been handed down to eight of his grandsons. In 1955 a new office and warehouse was built on South Park Avenue in the town of Hamburg, New York and in 1960, E. P. Kirst & Sons was incorporated. 

Today, our company is one of the largest wholesale distributors of candy, tobacco, groceries and allied products in Western New York, servicing twelve counties, from Lake Erie east to Rochester and from Lake Ontario south to the Pennsylvania border.
